Interview

with Jane Wiseman

Co-Founder Jenny: Today we’re interviewing Jane Wiseman, an up-and-coming rock star based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jane how are you?
Jane Wiseman: I’m fine thanks, yourselves?

Co-Founder Jamie: I’m great

Co-Founder Jenny: I’m good thanks
Co-Founder Jamie: Lets set the scene here for the
readers. I’m sitting here with Jane in Milwaukee and we’ve got Jenny Dodge on Zoom. Jane and I just ordered food.
Co-Founder Jenny: Where are you guys?
Co-Founder Jamie: At my place but we ordered from a
restaurant called the Beerline Cafe and brought it home.
It’s so good.
Jane: I’ve been there a million times.
Co-Founder Jenny: What did you order?
Co-Founder Jamie: I got the Fromage. It’s a vegan
grilled cheese.
Jane: I got the Lemon Poppyseed Crepe.
Co-Founder Jamie: Jane loves sweet stuff.
Jane: Yeah I have a sweet tooth for sure.
Co-Founder Jamie: So you just released an album of
demos back in September.
Jane: Yeah.
Co-Founder Jamie: I think it was just fantastic. Very
different.
Jane: Thank you, that’s nice of you to say.
Co-Founder Jamie: When did you write those songs?
Are they oldish, newish?
Jane: I wrote a couple of them before the pandemic
and most of them during the pandemic. I was holed up in my bedroom just making songs on my computer and midi keyboard in bed.
Co-Founder Jenny: I even downloaded the bandcamp
app for it.
Jane: Wow... that is so epic.
Co-Founder Jamie: What instruments do you play?
Jane: I just play the piano but I’ve been playing since
I was a little kid. My parents originally tried to get me
into the guitar but I couldn’t stand the strings. They’d
creep me out. Strings should be on the inside of an in-
strument, not on the outside. Once they put me in front
of a piano I really took to it, because I couldn’t see the
strings. It wasn’t till I got older that I found out there
were strings inside it. Then I switched to an electric

keyboard because there are no strings at all.

Co-Founder Jamie: Interesting

Co-Founder Jenny: What are your favorite songs on the album?

Jane: I like When I Lived in the Mountains, that would be a good single. I like The King too.

Co-Founder Jamie: What's that song about anyway? The lyrics are kind of cryptic.

Jane: It's about me meeting a celebrity who faked his death years ago.

Co-Founder Jenny: Which celebrity?

Jane: I can't say.

Co-Founder Jamie: You have to tell us.

Jane: I really can't say

Co-Founder Jenny: The melodies and tunes are complex and interesting. You can do it all.

Jane: Thanks. I tried to make each song sound different from the last. I think I achieved that. No two songs are alike. .I tried to make the lyrics interesting to listen to. I don't think they're your run of the mill lyrics.

Co-Founder Jamie: I agree

Co-Founder Jenny: How did you and Jamie meet?

Jane: We met at a Lemon Twigs show in Milwaukee in 2022.

Co-Founder Jamie: Great show. Tell us about your song I'm So Tired.

Jane: That song's about depression. But I intentionally titled it the same name as a Beatles song so I might get more listens on Spotify and Apple Music. I figure if I

used a Beatles song title people will look up that Beatles song and then accidentally hit my song.
Co-Founder Jenny: Do you have more songs in the works?

Jane: Yeah I have a bunch of songs ready to go for another album. One of them is up on my YouTube channel. Hooked on a Luxury. It’s a dumb song.

Co-Founder Jamie: I’ve seen that video, it’s fun! Not dumb at all.
Jane: It’s not dumb but it’s kind of just a throwaway song and video.
Co-Founder Jenny: I’ll check it out.
Co-Founder Jamie: What’s When I Lived in the Mouttains about?
Jane: It’s about meditation. The mountains being your mind and living there meaning spending time there. Spending time in your mind. When I say “the land goes dark at night” I’m talking about while meditating your mind going dark and quiet. Meditating really does feel like a cure for me. A cure for feeing emotionally tired. It just sort of resets everything.
Co-Founder Jamie: Do you meditate every day like some people do?
Jane: Yeah, every day, twice a day for 20 minutes. I don’t think I would’ve been able to write the music I’ve written without meditation.
Co-Founder Jamie: Could you tell us about When You Roll ‘Round again?
Jane: Yeah that ones about a guy at my work I don’t like. He’s not a good person. He’s not as bad as it gets or anything but I just have a strong distate for him and the things he does, the way he acts etc. He has filled me  with rage before and that’s when I wrote the lyrics to that song. He would infect my mind, get in there and mess with my head. The lawn and the property is the mind. I’m saying I’ve got better things to think about than him and what he’s doing. He’s not welcome there any more. I talk about “changing the locks” on my mind. Once I start thinking about him I catch myself and start thinking about something else.

Co-Founder Jenny: Jane do you play live?
Jane: I have a few shows coming up in LA. I’m play- ing at the Gentlemen’s Rathole on December 10th, Denlo’s Disco December 11th, The Yellow Water Club on December 12th, Madison Circle Garden on Decem- ber 13th, Gringos Heaven on the 14th of December, the East Fish West Fish Bar on December 15th. The Coffee Hole on December 20th. John’s Alcohol Ex- perience on January 2nd, 2023 and Jacob’s Jam and Preserves Bar and Grill January 12th and 13th as well as Tina’s Little Yeast House on January 15th and The Black Ball January 16th. I’ll also be playing at a house party too. Date TBD.
Co-Founder Jamie: I’ll be at the East Fish show for sure.
Jane: Awesome.
Co-Founder Jenny: Well thanks for talking to us Jane. You’re awesome.
Co-Founder Jamie: Yeah thanks Jane.
Jane: No problem. Thanks for having me. This was fun.
